Tucked away from the commercialised parts of Bristol is St Nick’s market, a place where locals in the know go for great quality food for very wallet friendly prices. On a recent visit to my hometown, I headed straight for Grillstock at lunchtime as I had heard extremely good things about their American style smoked BBQ meats!

Typically this type of BBQ means meat is cooked low and slow over smoke resulting in moist and yielding meat you can literally spoon and Grillstock doesn’t disappoint . They do a great job in providing the people of Bristol with succulent, smoky and melt in your mouth pulled pork, similar to the legendary rib rolls from the Ribman, but without the slightly inconvenient 3 hour commute to get a gert lush (Bristolian speak for fucking lovely), not to mention HUGE, sandwich.

This came with home-made slaw and I paid extra to top mine off with some BBQ beans which complemented the pork with it’s smoky and sweet flavours, but a standard sandwich can be yours for just £4.50! Well worth the money I’d say!

Also a special mention to Eat a Pitta, another stall in St. Nicks that serves falafel that rivals the Falafel King, a Bristol Institution. I grabbed a falafel pitta from these guys even after the huge pulled pork sandwich as the free sample (I love free stuff!) was so delicious! I devoured it greedily a couple of hours after, so much in fact that I forgot to get any pictures… But here’s one of my friendly server, and just look at all the veg! A virtuous lunch if ever there was one and at £3.95 for a falafel pitta or salad, a steal!
